Disney+ announces Marvel Studios' 2022 surprise finale

Marvel Studios wrapped up the MCU's Phase 4

Marvel Studios ended Phase 4 of the MCU with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Guardians of the Galaxy holiday specials, but it seems that another surprising non-narrative title will be released on Disney+ before the end of 2022.

2022 is an important year for MCUs. Doctor Strange kicks off the summer movies in the Multiverse of Madness, followed by the return of Chris Hemsworth as the titular Avenger in Thor: Love and Thunder.

Wakanda Forever closes Phase 4 on the big screen by honoring the late Chadwick Boseman while introducing Shuri as the new Black Panther. Disney+ also introduced three new MCU heroes, including Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight, and the Female Hulk.

On top of that, the Night of the Werewolves and Guardians of the Galaxy holiday specials were highly praised as Marvel Studios' first foray into the special. Although Marvel will reportedly slow production in 2023 and beyond, Marvel Studios' operations in 2022 don't seem to be over yet.

What is Marvel's Disney+ Final 2022?

According to the latest announcement from Disney+ Hotstar, a new episode of Marvel Studios Assembled will be released on the streaming service on Wednesday, December 28

The upcoming Assembled series will be the final edition of the year for Marvel Studios. Given that it wasn't included in Disney+'s originally announced December list, the announcement came as a surprise.

This Assembled series can be dedicated to Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, marking the first time an episode of its kind will be released before the corresponding film premieres on Disney+. Black Panther sequels are currently not expected to be released on the platform until early 2023.

On the other hand, the latest Assembled episode may revolve around the Guardians of the Galaxy holiday special. However, since filming Guardians of the Galaxy 2, hiding tidbits of possible spoilers will be a challenge. 3 also coincides with the holiday special.

Which MCU project will end in 2022?

Based on this new information, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is the project most likely to receive Assembled treatment. Perhaps fans can learn more about the elements left on the floor of the editing room, such as the reduction of the point of conspiracy for the United States to intervene in Wakanda's conflict with Talokan.

While releasing a special edition before the sequel hits Disney+ would break the trend of past films, it gives fans an idea of how the cast and crew, led by Black Panther 2 director Ryan Kughler, accomplished the film's insurmountable mission without starring Chad Vick Boseman. The assembled version of Wakanda Forever at the end of 2022 will also serve as a suitable cap for the MCU's Phase 4 operation.

Another possible outcome is that the Assembled episodes are mostly focused on the entire Phase 4 roster. While it may become repetitive due to past installments, watching a review of important episodes from previous episodes can be a good refresher as the MCU approaches Phase 5
