Madame Web’s Cyber's Sydney Sweeney will play Julia Carpenter's version of Spider-Man in the upcoming film.
For those unfamiliar with the characters in the comics, Carpenter debuted in the original Secret War comics in 1984. She was an experimental subject involving the DNA of spiders and plants – naturally, which led her to acquire the Arachno-humanoid ability.
The upcoming film is part of the Sony Spider-Man universe and also stars Dakota Johnson, Emma Roberts, Isabel Merced, and Adam Scott.
While many of the details about Mrs. Web are still rumors, those about Sweeney's character are now more believable — just haven't been confirmed by Sony itself.
Sydney Sweeney Is Julia Carpenter
Industry insider Jeff Sneider has revealed new information about Sydney Sweeney's role in Sony Pictures' Cyber Lady.
Snyder noted on The Hot Mic that he was told the actress would play the "second" Spider-Woman, also known as Julia Carpenter.
Back in August 2022, The Cosmic Circus first reported that Sweeney was Julia Carpenter.
This information has not been confirmed by Sony Pictures.
Another Spider-Woman joins Mrs. Cyber
Sydney Sweeney is a talented actress, so she is undoubtedly the perfect candidate for this role.
During the filming of the film, fans actually caught a glimpse of her character, however, she was simply dressed in simple everyday clothing without any signs of superhero gear.
Given the rumors, Sweeney won't be the only Spider-Woman in the movie. It is speculated that Cassandra Webb, Marty Franklin and Anya Corazon will join Julia Carpenter
Jeff Sneider does ask a big question: What happened to Olivia Wilde?
The actor, director, and screenwriter is currently working on the rumored Spider-Woman movie, focusing on Jessica Drew's version of the character. The project may even be related to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
However, no more information has surfaced since that information was first disclosed. It's not even clear if the project is still ongoing.
Perhaps things will become clearer once Lady Web finally hits theaters on February 16, 2024.
