The announcement date for the new list of DC superhero movies has reportedly been announced

A new report may have revealed when James Gunn and Peter Safran's DC Studios will announce the first project on the new DCU roster.

Gunn and Safran have been leading DC Studios since November 1, 2022, and they have been designing the blueprint for the new DCU for the past three months. So far, fans have only learned a few things about DC's master plan, including news of certain recasts, series reboots, and hints of new characters coming soon.

But that could soon change, as Gunn had previously promised that the first "few" projects in the new DCU would be announced in January. With the clock ticking for the first month of 2023, the announcements were considered imminent, and fans waited for news all month.

When will James Gunn announce the new DCU Slate?

According to influencer Matt Ramos (aka Supes), the first list of DC Studios by James Gunn and Peter Safran will be released on Tuesday, January 31.

Supes also noted that while many were initially tricked into thinking Tuesday's announcement had been confirmed, it was information he was able to confirm independently.

The news comes after Gunn previously confirmed that his first project announcement would be made by the end of January. While Gunn and Safran's list of DCUs will cover eight to ten years, DC Studios will only announce "a few" of them on Tuesday.

In these announcements, news of a new Superman movie – written by Gunn – is expected to explore "the early stages of Superman's life." At the time of the reboot, the young Clark Kent will work as a childish journalist in Metropolis, where he will meet key characters such as Lois Lane.

The Direct previously made six predictions for some of the announcements fans can expect from the upcoming DCU roster reveal.

What to Expect From the DCU Slate Reveal?

James Gunn and Peter Safran may have worked together for a decade, but the two now manage DC Studios for only about three months. As such, all of these projects will be in the extremely early stages of development, which means that fans should manage their expectations based on what they expect from this showcase.

As Gunn himself said, they will only announce the first "few" projects on the list, which may be a mix of movies and series. According to Gunn, although DCU will eventually cover animation and games, the initial focus will likely still be on the live-action version in order to get the maximum response.

Despite news that DC Studios' announcements will be released on Tuesday, it's unclear where they will come from or what platform they will take. Some of these options include official live streams, pre-recorded announcement videos, a series of tweets from Gann, and articles from Hollywood industry publications.

In addition, fans should not expect too much from the news of the cast or crew, as it is too early to develop the concept of any production plan or be able to negotiate a contract. Beyond that, any replay announcement could end up seriously disrupting the four remaining DC movies in 2023.

Still, viewers can catch a glimpse of some of the first projects from the new DCU, which may not make it past 2026. Fans may learn where Gunn's "greatest [DC] story of all time is headed" and more clearly indicate whether this is a reboot or continuation of the DCEU.

James Gunn and Peter Safran are expected to make the first announcements of the new DCU on Tuesday, January 31. The specific release platform is not yet known.
